Greater Greece itinerary

Metaponto was an important Greece colony dating to the VIII century B.C. Today it is one of the most interesting centres of Greater Greece along the Ionic Coast. A great area of archaeological finds was discovered in Metaponto and many tools and furnishings are collected in the museum of Metaponto. The excavation works together with the cataloguing process are still in progress. Here many philosophers and mathematicians stayed, among these we remember Pitagora in the VI century B.C.
• Museo Archeologio di Metaponto – here you find the main finds discovered in the surrounding area of the old Metaponto whereas some finds are from the area of Pisticci and from the archaeological area of the Incoronata. The museum includes four rooms. The first one shows prehistoric finds, the second collects item belonging to Greece colonization. Then you have the integration between Greeks and natives and finally the Roman era.
• Tavole Palatine – They were built at the end of the VI century B.C. The 15 Doric columns belonging to an ancient temple still give the idea of cultural greatness of this place.
