Matera is one of those places that can be visited all year round, because it always has something to offer to those who come here. Whether you love the nostalgic atmosphere of autumn, the Christmas holidays or the carefree summer, here you will always find what you want. It’s just a matter of choosing the right period.
That’s why we wanted to hear the opinion of those who were born in Matera and still live there now, because who better than they can tell us when it is best to visit the city?
“My favorite time of year is absolutely Spring: the weather is mild and allows you to experience the Sassi in all their splendor. I am also a lover of excursions, I really like trekking in the morning or at sunset and this is one of the best times. The Murgia Park is full of colors and crazy scents. Even the city comes alive, without the hustle and bustle of summer. It is wonderful.”
“It is true that in summer the temperature rises, especially in July and August, but the Sassi, due to their conformation, always remain cool and welcoming. This is my favorite time of year because you can also go to the beach and then on July 2 there is the most important event of the year: the feast of Our Lady of Bruna, the patron saint of Matera. The city is transformed, there are processions, songs, dances, shows. In short, it is something not to be missed, in fact I live it every year as if it were the first.”
“I am a lover of cold and snow so I say winter. Especially in December the Christmas atmosphere makes Matera a unique place: it seems to live in a crib.
Then if you are lucky enough to see the snow fall the emotion is really indescribable and the city becomes one of the most romantic places in the world. I asked my wife to marry me during one of the last snowfalls, you name it.”
So now that you have heard the opinion of the “experts” you are ready to make your decision. If you still have some doubts you can take a look at our special offers, we have something for all tastes and all seasons.
